And yes, there’s bird poetry. Lots of it.
I’m so excited to share that Demi’s Abrauxian Tycoon, Book 5 in the Abrauxian Brides series, is officially out in the wild!
This book was such a joy to write. Demi, my gothic artist heroine from Charlotte, finds herself tangled up with the enigmatic Lord Chyrgog, an alien tycoon with a big ego and a surprisingly romantic side (even if he denies it). But the twist? Much of their story takes place right here on Earth.
Getting to write scenes from the alien point of view while they navigated Earth under attack was honestly a blast. It gave me a whole new sandbox to play in, and trust me, the characters made the most of it.
One of the most unexpected gifts of this book, though, came from a running joke that turned into a full-blown project: bird courtship poetry.
Yes, you read that right.
Demi challenges Lord Chyrgog and the fierce Krotux King Skovul, our regal tiger-man, to try to win female favor through absurd avian-inspired “wooing rituals.” What began as a flirtatious dare turned into something so bizarre and hilarious that I couldn’t resist creating a whole companion volume. And so, Wings in Bloom: Courtship Verses of the Skybound was born.
This poetry collection features thirty-one utterly ridiculous love poems "written" by various birdlike alien species, and it includes the verses Demi used to challenge the males, plus a few she didn't use. Expect dancing, food-flinging, nest building, and a fair bit of confused squawking.
If you’ve ever wanted to read about muscle-bound alien males trying to impress females following the guidance of birds, these are the books for you. But don't worry, it's not all fun and games, the characters are put through the wringer as they are pursued through the Appalachian mountains of western North Carolina, by hired thugs who hate aliens.
Both Demi’s Abrauxian Tycoon and Wings in Bloom are now available, and I hope they bring you as much laughter and swoony delight as they brought me while writing.
Thank you for loving these fierce women, growly alien warriors, and the strange, beautiful universe we’ve built together.
With cosmic gratitude and a full heart,
Lisa Clute
